Ex-NTIA Chair and current 24 Hour Economy Commissioner for NSW, Michael Rodrigues, said recently that alfresco could provide a lifeline for a lot of hospitality venues hit hard by the pandemic, particularly as restrictions lift and venues reopen. He said it is important that we utilise as much space as viable and make the application process as simple as possible.

We couldn’t agree more – the NTIA fully supports the State Government in prioritising outdoor dining and live performance across all LGAs in NSW.

The expansion of the Al Fresco Dining Program by the NSW government is something the NTIA has advocated for consistently. In particular, we have asked the state government to introduce emergency reforms focused on prioritising outdoor experiences – dining as well as live performance – rather than rely on ad-hoc rules from local councils.
